Completed January 24, 2012, with a view to creating a real action figure – and returning to the exploration of life as a six-limbed creature. (See the Hexapod Lizard for the first experiment.) The steel wire armature is forgiving enough to allow for a lot of repositioning, and the idea was to see how long a figure could last if the pose was not regarded as final. The wings have a base of silk jersey sewn into place and then felted over.

The Wasp Darter embodies too many experiments and last-minute rescue revisions to leave the Salamander’s side, but you can write to the Salamander if you’d like to discuss the creation of someone similar for yourself.
